- From Brazil to the Caribbean in 60 seconds
Time has come for us to start heading north towards the Caribbean. We left once again Rio de Janario on April 1st at 22:00, destination Cabo Frio.
We headed east, following almost the same track (red one in the screenshot) that 2 months before brought us to Ilha Grande from South Africa, at the end of our ocean crossing.
We had mixed feelings, we thought that we were leaving too soon… But I guess that we need to get used to this kind of feeling in our cruising life.
I remember that when we sailed past Cabo Frio coming from St Helena, we had to get the foul weather gear out of the closet again. Cabo Frio was really frio!
This time around though, it wasn’t that cold. Of course the water temperature was not the 29 degrees we were used to in Ilha Grande, but it was pleasant nonetheless.
Since weather and sea conditions allowed, we entered through the narrow passage of Boqueirao, and the spectacle that opened up in front of our eyes was outstanding: A lagoon-like setting, with shallow and crystal-clear water and turtles swimming around. We felt as if we were in the Caribbean! We dropped the anchor in front of the island of Cabo Frio, a natural reserve, and we enjoyed swimming. Plan B (our friends Joaquin and Monica, on a gorgeous L45) anchored right next to us, and in the background you can see the sunset in the Boqueirao passage.
The next day, we inflated the kite on the trampoline and we did some kitesurfing! Well, Yuka did. I was just the assistant.
Since the wind changed we moved to Praio do Forno, on the continent side. Great beach with bars and restaurants. Excellent for SUPing and chilling out. And the view of the bay from the top of the hill is spectacular.
Next stop will be Armação dos Búzios. I have great expectation about this place, so I’m looking forward to get there.
