The Spanish Virgin Islands consist of Culebra and Vieques, and are part of the commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

It’s been documented that Christopher Columbus discovered the Island of Culebra on his second trip across the Atlantic in 1493.  Columbus named the islands after Saint Ursula and the 11,000 Virgins (Santa Úrsula y las Once Mil Vírgenes), shortened to the Virgins (las Vírgenes).

Culebra was a great kite surfing spot for us.  We spent many days at anchor behind this coral reef just kite boarding:

Snorkeling was also great there:

The Spanish Virgin islands are fantastic and the most underrated among the Virgins.
